Once known as Jorvik, this vibrant town was a major Viking centre of commerce and boasts a huge selection of architecture from a variety of historical periods. From the city walls to the charming shopping street known as The Shambles, York has something for everybody.
There are various cruises available down the river Ouse and visitors can enjoy the National Railway Museum, the Castle Museum and Betty's Tea Rooms – home of Yorkshire Tea and an incredibly unique mirror from the Second World War on which service men visiting the café could write their names with a diamond-tipped ‘pen'.
